Product Description
Once a year, the Bai and Yi people of Yunnan hold a torch festival. Here a Bai lady watches the men of her village erecting a pine torch just out of shot. We toured the villages around Shaxi in the hour or so at sunset and dusk, watching the villages prepare for the lighting of the torch. The Bai people are matriarchal and this is evident during such ceremonies as this, with the women casting a critical eye.
