Hand-woven on traditional looms by the Lisu women of Yunnan Province. Hemp’s durable properties are well known but this scarf is surprisingly soft. The people of Yunnan have been growing and weaving hemp sustainably for centuries. From our friends at Threads of Yunnan.
The Lisu people of Yunnan
The Lisu are one of Yunnan’s many ethnic groups. There are approx. 750,000 Lisu in the province and they have lived there for thousands of years. Being reliant on fragile forms of agriculture their lives are frequently disrupted by ecological disaster, traditionally relying heavily on trade for income. Threads of Yunnan help the Lisu to exist in the modern world opening their traditional skils to the global market.
