In a beautiful setting among pine coated hills on the HeiHui River, Shaxi old town was a trading post on the ancient Tea Horse Road. This bridge heads out of town over the river towards the animal market and into lush fields of rice and small Bai villages.
Today Shaxi is growing in popularity as a tourist destination but still retains old world charm. It is also one of the best places we know of to experience the craziness of the torch festival held on the 25th day of the 6th lunar month.
