Meet the makers – Behind the scenes at Mekong Quilts

Our friends at Mekong Quilts work hard to support communities in rural areas of Vietnam, helping them gain a sustainable source of income.

In these rural areas agriculture is not enough to survive and the poorest of people are living on as little as half a dollar a day. Mekong Plus, a not-for-profit organisation, helps these families by providing guidance on health and hygiene, scholarships for the children and support and training on how they can increase their income.

The handicraft project employs over 300 women in highly skilled roles, sometimes training them for a number of years. Filmed in 2013 the video below shows how this project works, enabling the women to provide for their families using traditional skills while being able stay close to home.
